KEY POINTS

  • Karl-Anthony Towns may not move out of the Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Towns want to follow in the footsteps of the late Kobe Bryant and play for one team
  • Towns may still be on the radar of the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors

Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves is a target by multiple teams, a result of his frustration with his NBA career thus far.

He has sounded off, sending feelers that he wants out of Minnesota. But a recent end-of-season interview may change the tide.

“I hope to have a career like Kobe…with one team,” Towns stated. “Like Tim [Duncan] and Kobe, where it’s one team and try to bring as many championships as possible…”

Beyond that and despite his unhappiness, Towns also mentioned how he was grateful being in Minnesota and given the chance to play there through the years.

This somehow goes against claims that came out in December 2020 that the two-time All-Star is unhappy despite being only in the first year of a five-year deal worth $190 million, The Athletic reported.

But of course, a lot has changed since then. There will be an ownership change in Minnesota, so that could alter the frustrations that the 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year has right now.

As far as the Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan comment, it remains to be seen if that will hold up.

Bryant had his share of frustrations when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers, and the same goes with Duncan with the San Antonio Spurs.

Although the plight of all teams mentioned is different, Towns may have to extend his patience until the Timberwolves can establish themselves as a solid unit.

Towns batted for the inclusion of D’Angelo Russell, and their partnership has yet to flourish. A reason behind this is the injuries that hit both NBA cagers.

Aside from that, there is the emergency of Anthony Edwards, who has shown potential to rank among the league’s top players.

The New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors have allegedly expressed interest in Towns, especially when the word got out that he was reportedly happy.

Expect NBA trade rumors involving Towns to heat up in the offseason. But as far as seeing him jump ship, all that may have to wait as he will likely want to see first if the management change can alter the course of the franchise.
