NBA Rumors: Things Just Falling Into Place For Former Lottery Pick
KEY POINTS
- Chriss will man the center for the Dubs soon
- Chriss has drawn praises from Kerr, on and off the court
- Chriss resurrects flailing NBA career with Dubs
After seemingly seeing his NBA career taking a tumble, Marquese Chriss's fortunes seem to be taking a turn for the better. He started out as a late addition after the Dubs saw several players move out and go down on injuries. Now, he is being given good opportunities with the former lottery pick possibly filling in the middle void of head coach Steve Kerr.
This season, the 22-year-old has played in 50 games for the Dubs averaging 8.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists, as per Basketball-Reference.com. At 6-foot-9, he could be one of the NBA's agile centers if plans to use him prosper, The Athletic reported. If things do pan out, it could point Chriss to a promising future with the franchise.
It has been a turbulent season for Chriss though the Warriors never lost faith in him. He was waived at one point which most saw as likely the end of a rebound year. But it did not take long for the Dubs to recall him and eventually give him a guaranteed deal. And from the way things are going, it appears the 8th overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft has resuscitated his career after appearing to go off course.
Chriss had a promising start back from 2016 to 2018 with the Suns. He was dubbed as one of the rising young men to play the game until issues started to sink in. He would be dealt to the Houston Rockets and then transfer to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the following years. He hardly made an impact and most felt that it would be the end of the former cager of the Washington Huskies. But per Kerr, Chriss has had a great attitude on and off the floor. This is seen as the reason why he has earned the vote of confidence of Kerr, The Athletic said in another report.
Becoming the starting center for Kerr also hardly comes as a surprise. After dealing Willie Cauley-Stein the Dallas Mavericks and Kevon Looney dealing with injuries, he is the plausible choice to play the middle.
Either way, Chriss's value will grow by next season. Golden State is out of it this 2019-20 NBA season with a league-worst 12-43 record over in the Western Conference. Things are expected to change next season when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are back at 100 percent health.
