KEY POINTS

  • Lou Williams prepares for the worst after the current NBA season
  • Williams appears content coming off the bench for the Hawks
  • The Hawks are likely using Williams as a mentor to young players on the roster

At 35 years old, there is no question that Lou Williams has established himself as one of the notable figures in the NBA.

Hence, wrapping up his career would not be surprising and it appears the three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year has that in his mind unless otherwise.

For the 2021-22 season, Williams has seen action in three games with notably low numbers of 6.3 points and two rebounds in just 12 minutes of action for the Atlanta Hawks.

Moreover, he has not started in any game so far and is relegated to a bench role.

Those numbers are a far cry from his career averages of 14.3 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds.

Probably aware that his time as an NBA player is slowly coming to an end, the 6-foot-1 cager believes that this could be his last season as a pro basketball player when he spoke to Taylor Rooks of the Bleacher Report on Monday, November 1.

"I know this is probably my last season, I'll say that publicly," Williams said. "But I said that last time, so, who knows?"

Regardless of what he decides on, the 45th pick of the 2005 NBA Draft stressed that he is at peace calling it a career.

Williams started his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, a team that he played for in seven seasons.

He also had stints with the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers throughout his NBA career.

The seasoned guard has spent the last two seasons in Atlanta although he also had previous stints with the Hawks from 2012 to 2014.

In all, he owns career averages of 11.4 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in a Hawks uniform.

With the Hawks focused on young stars led no less by Trae Young and John Collins, Williams is likely around to guide the young players on the team.

The Hawks drew attention last NBA season when they got as far as the Eastern Conference finals. Now, they are hoping to at least replicate that feat.
