Jodie Meeks

Jodie Meeks may not be among the high-profile NBA players in the free-agent market but undoubtedly owns experience to help any ballclub off the bench. He was part of the 2018-19 Toronto Raptors champion squad but is now an unrestricted free agent awaiting his next stop. That could be with the Charlotte Hornets if both camps can come to terms.

Meeks, 31, may not be the same player he was some years back although he could still be a reliable guard off the bench. His case is a bit similar to Jeremy Lin, joining the Raptors during the latter part of the 2018-19 NBA season and chipping in 6.4 points while shooting 44-percent from the three-point region. He could bring those same numbers (or better) to the Hornets or any other team interested in giving him a try.

Sources told Amico Hoops that at least two teams are interested in the 41st overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft. These are the Hornets and the Los Angeles Clippers, teams obviously headed in different directions for the coming NBA season. The Hornets are in rebuild mode and are looking to rebuild following the departure of Kemba Walker. Terry Rozier could rise to the occasion but it is apparent that Charlotte needs more guards spelling him during games.

At his age, pundits feel that it would be best for Meeks to join the Clippers instead. With the acquisition of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, there is no question that the Clips are one of the favorites in the Western Conference this 2019-20 NBA season. Should he choose this path, he would ironically reunite with Leonard in Los Angeles.

Over in Charlotte, it could be a reunion as well for Meeks with general manager Mitch Kupchak. The latter was the same person who signed him with the Los Angeles Lakers, someone who saw something special at him back in 2012, ESPN reported. He had his best year back during the 2013-14 NBA season with the Lakers, averaging 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 77 games.

Hence, it all boils down to what Meeks may want moving forward. If it is playing time, he could get that with the Hornets. But if he is looking for another ring, he may have better chances of joining the Clippers.
