NBA Rumors: Warriors Dangled Second Overall Pick But No Teams Bit Bait
KEY POINTS
- Warriors are aiming for a big name in exchange for their top pick
- Wiseman remains likely the top choice for the Warriors at the 2020 NBA Draft
- Edwards may end up with the the Charlotte Hornets
The Golden State Warriors are believed to be listening to offers for the rights to the second overall pick.
However, that does not mean that the Dubs are not also taking the initiative to strike deals. It appears the Warriors tried that to get another star but fell short.
A name that was linked to the Dubs was Jrue Holiday, ESPN reported. Though he is a star in his own right, pundits feel Golden State can do better.
Aside from that, there is the age and cash involvement to consider. At 30 with a large sum involved, the Warriors face a lot of questions than getting an answer with Holiday.
That does not mean that the Warriors are stopping from considering offers. If their pursuit falls short, they will be left with two options–wait for an acceptable offer or use their pick on Nov. 18.
Right now, the name of James Wiseman is gaining ground as head coach Steve Kerr’s likely pick to fill in their big man void. However, it would be wise not to count Anthony Edwards off.
Edwards has conspicuously gone down the pecking order with LaMelo Ball likely to be selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dubs possibly getting Wiseman.
If those go as planned, Edwards would fall to the third spot, into the waiting hand of the Charlotte Hornets.
But there was a time that the Warriors felt that Edwards is a talent that would be too good to pass up, the Bleacher Report reported. He is seen as a solid player who can be an asset on both ends of the court.
The only problem is that he may not last long in the Bay Area with the backcourt still having Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to man it.
A scenario could see Edwards be part of their long term plans. However, a player of his caliber would go to waste in waiting. If the Dubs do go on to get him, he is likely to end up getting traded later on.
If a good deal comes their way, the Warriors could trade down and get a better big man.
The New York Knicks could have the best chances of being that team, assuming they offer Mitchell Robinson. The 7-footer is undoubtedly a curious fit for the Dubs who are out for redemption this 2020-21 NBA season.
