NBA Rumors: Warriors Interested In Trade For Sharpshooter, Stephen Curry Contract Extension Expected
It’s been expected that the Golden State Warriors would try to significantly upgrade their roster in hopes of making another championship run next season. No such move has materialized through the draft and the start of free agency, though that could change this summer.
The latest rumors link Golden State to one of the NBA’s best shooters. The Utah Jazz are considering trading Joe Ingles to shed payroll, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. The Warriors are interested in acquiring Ingles if he’s available, The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson reports.
Golden State has the assets to pull off a big trade. A deal between the Warriors and Jazz might not be likely, however, considering Golden State would rather trade its recent draft picks in a deal for an All-Star-caliber player.
Ingles was a key contributor for the No. 1 seed Jazz in the 2020-21 season, averaging 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. The 33-year-old ranked second among all players in effective field-goal percentage while hitting 45.1% of his 3-pointers. Ingles has only missed nine total games in his seven seasons.
The Warriors picked Jonathan Kumina and Moses Moody with the No. 7 and No. 14 picks, respectively, in the draft. James Wiseman was selected by Golden State second overall in 2020.
The Warriors have been linked to Toronto’s Pascal Siakam in trade rumors. If Bradley Beal becomes available, Golden State is viewed as a top candidate to make a deal with the Washington Wizards.
With Stephen Curry finishing third in the 2021 MVP race, the Warriors could be one move away from having a championship-caliber roster. Curry and the Warriors are expected to reach a four-year, $215 million contract extension with Curry this summer, according to insider Marc Stein.
Curry averaged a career-high 32.0 points per game while attempting 21.7 shots per game last season. The Warriors lost in the second round of the play-in tournament as the West’s No. 8 seed.
Klay Thompson is set to return to the court for Golden State after missing two straight seasons with injuries.
