NBA Standings 2022: Lakers, Kings, Magic Have Worst Records, Still Seeking First Win
Every NBA team has played at least three games, and three teams are still searching for their first win of the 2022-23 season. The Los Angeles Lakers (0-4), Sacramento Kings (0-3) and Orlando Magic (0-5) are at the bottom of the very early standings.
The Kings have the longest playoff drought in the league, and the Magic played so poorly last season that they ended up with the No. 1 pick in the draft. The Lakers, on the other hand, are only two years removed from winning the championship and have two of the league's best players.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are averaging a combined 49.3 points and 19.5 rebounds per game during Los Angeles' four-game losing streak to start the season. Russell Westbrook has received much of the blame, but he's only part of the problem. The Lakers have been a historically bad shooting team in the early going, resulting in the worst offense that the league has seen in years.
The Lakers are shooting 22.3% from 3-point range. It's the worst mark ever for a team that has taken at least 125 3-pointers over any four-game stretch.
Los Angeles ranks at the bottom of the league with a 96.9 offensive rating. It's the worst offensive rating to start a season since the Philadelphia 76ers went 1-30 to begin the 2015-16 campaign.
In their 110-99 loss against the Denver Nuggets Wednesday, the Lakers missed 22 of their 30 attempts from behind the arc. Los Angeles' next game comes on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which are off to a 3-2 start.
James is averaging a league-high 4.8 turnovers per game. Before missing Wednesday's contest with a hamstring injury, Westbrook had 31 total points on 38 field-goal attempts. Patrick Beverley is averaging 5.3 points on 21.1% shooting in four starts.
The Lakers are 0-4 despite the No. 4 defense in the league.
Orlando is 28th in offensive rating. The Magic are the league's only five-loss team. Orlando is one of the youngest teams in basketball. No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero is averaging 24.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
The Magic are one of three teams that are shooting worse than 30% from 3-point range.
Sacramento has started the season with a difficult schedule. The Kings have been defeated by the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers, the two favorites in the Western Conference. Sacramento has also played the Portland Trail Blazers, which sit atop the conference standings with a 4-1 record.
All three of the Kings' losses have come by single digits.
