- He was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers
- Andre Drummond shared that there's "no friends or loyalty" in the NBA
The trade rumors about Andre Drummond have finally come true. Detroit’s starting big man has been shipped out of the franchise. It was a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for John Henson, Brandon Knight and the lesser of Golden State or Cleveland’s 2023 second-round pick.
Andre Drummond has spent his whole career with the Detroit Pistons. He was selected in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft as the 9th overall pick. The product of the UConn Huskies has made a name for himself in the league. He has led the NBA in rebounding for three different seasons, with the 2017-2018 campaign as the peak with 16 boards per game.
He has also been selected to two All-Star games with his individual performance. He also notched an All-NBA berth in 2016 being awarded to the third team. But with all of the accolades he’s earned in the city of Detroit, he’s also had the struggles. He’s made it twice to the postseason but was swept in both those appearances. The last time the Detroit Pistons won a playoff game was back in the 2007-2008 season. Despite the struggles, the 26-year-old stuck around for the franchise, sharing that he’s given his “heart and soul” to the team.
That’s why he was visibly upset when the news broke that he was being traded away to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He shared that there’s no loyalty in the league with how the team simply shipped him out of the city without letting him know first.
He will now be part of the struggling Cleveland team who are trying to rebuild their team. The Cleveland Cavaliers are now at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 13-39 record. Kevin Love has also been in the mix of trade rumors but was eventually kept by the Cleveland Cavaliers. With half of the season remaining the top rebounding frontcourt of Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and Andre Drummond will try to end the year in a stronger note.
