NBA Trade Rumors: Cauley-Stein Trade Gives Dubs Added Flexibility

The Golden State Warriors continue to hold their head above water in an atrocious season and map out their plans for the future. The Dubs latest move is sending Willie Cauley-Stein to the Dallas Mavericks for a future pick, something that also allows them to make other moves.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on the trade, citing league sources. Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed that the Warriors would be getting the Mavs 2020 second-round pick from Utah.

Once the trade is made official, the Dubs will have added salary-cap space and can hand two players guaranteed contracts. The players who have two-way deals are Ky Bowman and Marquese Chriss, someone who was previously waived but re-signed. However, NBC Sports notes that there could be other players on the move in the coming days.

Among the names who have frequented the NBA trade rumor mill include Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III. Burks has drawn interest from several teams. Such hardly comes as a surprise with the numbers he is putting up. Burks is averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists this 2019-20 season. Robinson, on the other hand, could be of use to ballclubs in search of a 3-and-D player. Among the teams who could consider him include the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and the Philadelphia 76ers.

As for Cauley-Stein, the 26-year-old is expected to fill the void left by Dwight Powell. Dallas needed to address the void as they boost their NBA playoff push. This season, the 7-footer has played in 41 games averaging 7.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per Basketball-Reference.com.

The impending move by the Warriors also appends the plight of Chriss. It appears head coach Steve Kerr has grown fond of the 22-year-old big man. Aside from that, he has drawn the admiration of Draymond Green who vouched for him before the current NBA season got underway. Much of this was mentioned in a previous post.

Golden State is simply going through the motions of finishing their disastrous 2019-20 NBA campaign. They are currently at the tail-end of the Western Conference with a 10-38 win-loss record and are on a three-game losing streak.
