NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs To Aggressively Pursue Combo Guards Before Deadline
KEY POINTS
- The Cavaliers are in search of two combo guards before the trade deadline
- The Cavs have Caris LeVert and Eric Gordon on their wish list
- Beefing up their backcourt could be in preparation for the playoffs
The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to perform well this season although there are flaws they have to address, particularly in their backcourt.
With only Darius Garland holding up the fort, the Cavs are expected to try and acquire some guards to beef up their backcourt.
The names of Caris LeVert of the Indiana Pacers and Eric Gordon of the Houston Rockets have emerged as potential targets.
In return, an injured Ricky Rubio is expected to be part of the deal, plus a potential 2022 first-round pick according to Eric Pincus of the Bleacher Report.
Rubio, who was doing fine before getting injured and seeing his season cut short, will be part of the deal in an apparent salary dump.
As for the future first-rounder, it could be enticing to either the Pacers or Rockets where they could pick out someone to be in the 18-22 range.
The Cavs are managing to hold up well without guards who were initially seen to stabilize the plays of JB Bickerstaff.
First to fall was Collin Sexton who went down with a torn meniscus. He has been ruled out for the season.
But it was the break that Rubio had and the Spaniard responded. Unfortunately for him, he also fell prey to the injury bug after suffering a torn ACL during their 104-108 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans this past December.
LeVert is someone being shopped by the Pacers who are expected to start a rebuilding phase.
Aside from the Cavs, the New York Knicks have been mentioned as another suitor.
However, the Pacers' asking price for the 27-year-old swingman is believed to be too much.
According to Jake Fischer of the Bleacher Report, the Pacers want multiple first-round picks for LeVert.
It remains to be seen if the alleged offer of the Cavs will be acceptable to Indiana.
The case could be different for the Rockets.
Tim McMahon and Brian Windhorst revealed on The Hoop Collective podcast that Houston will not accept anything less than a first-round pick for Gordon.
Between the Pacers and the Rockets, a deal with the latter seems more plausible.
With the NBA trade deadline fast approaching, that could happen on or even before February 10.
