NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs Ship Hill, Reunite With Dellavedova

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reunited with Matthew Dellavedova following a three-time NBA trade that went down before the team's match against the Warriors. Shipped out was George Hill who is headed to the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks have sent Dellavedova, John Henson and a first and second-round draft pick in 2021 to the Cavs in exchange for Hill and Sam Dekker. Dekker, in turn, will be sent to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jason Smith and a future second rounder.

Also part of the deal was Cleveland sending their 2021 second-round pick to the Wizards for Washington's 2022 second-rounder, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst and The Athletic's Shams Charania.

The deal remains unofficial until the physical done on the players involved have been ironed out. Unless there are findings, this multiplayer trade should be made official by Monday.

The return of Dellavedova to the Cavs fold should be interesting. He is best known as the player who was able to put Stephen Curry in check back in 2015 and stepped up for Cleveland with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love out due to injuries, NBC Sports reported. His performance dipped the year after and the Australian eventually opted to try his luck with the Bucks.

Dellavedova returns to a team that is on rebuild mode. Gone are Irving and James who are now with the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, respectively. He will also have to get acquainted with the system of Larry Drew who took over Tyronn Lue’s position. The only remaining holdovers from his last stint in Ohio include Love, Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye.

With his experience, he is likely to mentor the young guards in the roster, such as Jordan Clarkson and rookie Collin Sexton. He is also expected to be one of the leaders for the team, seeing how the Cavs are trying to keep their heads above water in the Eastern Conference with a 5-20 win-loss record, tied with the Atlanta Hawks at the bottom.

"We're very pleased to bring Delly back to Cleveland and want to welcome John Henson as well. This deal satisfied several important aspects for us in terms of having both long- and shorter-term benefits and assets involved. We will continue to look for ways to improve and strengthen our position for the future while enhancing our ability to compete and grow in the short term also," said Cavs general manager Koby Altman in a report from ESPN.

The 32-year-old Hill will be playing for his fourth team after breaking into the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs in 2008. He also had stints with the Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz and the Sacramento Kings. He is averaging 10.8 points and shooting 46 percent on 3-pointers, though he missed 11 games with a shoulder injury.
