NBA Trade Rumors: Kings Big Man Wants Out Of Sacramento, Has Issues With Walton
KEY POINTS
- Dedmon wants to play for a team that can put his talent to use
- Dedmon is the second player to say that he has trust issues with head coach Luke Walton
- The Sacramento Kings are in total disarray, placing Walton in a bad light
The Sacramento Kings are having their share of problems and this is showing in their current NBA record. At 12-19, the Kings are also dealing with internal "trust issues" reportedly linked to first-year head coach Luke Walton.
One player who is dealing with it is Dewayne Dedmon. The 30-year-old center was originally seen as a great signing last summer. Coming off a good season with the Atlanta Hawks, pundits felt that the 7-footer would be a perfect fit beside Marvin Bagley III and the Kings. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.
In fact, Dedmon has played in only 23 games with measly averages of 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds. These are a far cry from last season's performance where he averaged 10.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, according to Basketball Reference.com.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Dedmon wants a trade out of Sacramento. There are reportedly multiple teams interested in his services and something is expected to go down before the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline. But the team that takes in Dedmon will have to have room to accommodate his salary. The undrafted player of the 2013 NBA Draft is owed $13 million this season and next before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2022.
Dedmon is another player who is having trust issues with Walton. It is believed that their relationship has soured and is now beyond repair. Curiously, Dedmon is not the only one saying this. Before the Dedmon issue, it was teammate Buddy Hield coming out in the open to spill the soured relationships from within. A lot of that had to do with Walton benching the 27-year-old during the latter stages of the team's overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Hield would later on apologize, the Sacramento Bee reported.
For his part, Walton explained why he sat out Hield at that point. He said that it was not part of any punishment and that he was just sticking with the guys who were playing well at that stage, NBA.com reported.
"I played the guys that had it going. They earned that right to finish that game and they got within striking distance. It wasn’t a punishment at all."
