NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Unlikely To Give Up Main Stars For Latvian Center

There is no telling what plans the Dallas Mavericks have for Kristaps Porzingis with unofficial NBA trade rumors in the air.

The Mavs are looking to get better, but there has been little movement on what the future holds for the Latvian center.

Regardless of what the Mavs planned, there will surely be interest. But the next question is who will the Mavs get in return?

Considering the fact that Porzingis owns a hefty $158 million five-year contract, it will take a lot. He is only in his second year and is owed roughly $100 million more.

He does have a player option in 202, but the annual money owed to him is quite huge.

Given that a buyout is obviously out of the questions, the Los Angeles Lakers and any tight salary-capped team may not get a chance at the 7-foot-3 beanpole.

Assuming that the Lakers do have plans, it would mean sacrificing key players to get the deal done.

Among the ones suggested is a potential NBA trade scenario that involves Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Alex Caruso, Talen Horton-Tucker and a future first-round pick.

That would be quite a haul for the Mavs, something that team owner Mark Cuban may bite. But will the Lakers even contemplate pulling off such a trade?

The chances of seeing this go down are unlikely. The Lakers need players to help out their cause and giving up too much for Porzingis appears to make no sense.

Although it instantly gives the Lakers a “Big Three,” lack of bench support will come back to haunt Frank Vogel and company if they consider this trade.

The Mavs, on the other hand, would have an abundance of talent with Harrell and KCP singled out as big additions. But as far as improving their chances in the postseason, such still leaves a lot of big question marks.

For now, Porzingis prefers to focus on the task at hand with the Maverick. He admitted that the reports that came out caught his eye but is something he cannot get worried about.
