  • Multiple NBA teams could sign J.J. Reddick if he is bought out by the Pelicans
  • Reddick prefers to play for a team near Brooklyn
  • Reddick may want to join a contender team and win an NBA title

The New Orleans Pelicans still have a chance to make the NBA postseason, and a roster tweak could help their current campaign.

Hence, this means that some current players could be eased out and one of them is veteran guard J.J. Reddick.

In a report from Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers are a potential landing spot for the 36-year-old player.

He has not exactly been as effective compared to previous years, averaging 8.7 points 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 31 games. His production for the 2020-21 NBA season has been practically halved although his leadership remains undaunted.

The Sixers have more than enough firepower at this point but need someone who can hold the team together.

Having played for the Sixers from 2017 to 2019, the 6-foot-3 guard’s familiarity with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid could be a favorable boost for head coach Doc Rivers.

At his age, there is no question that Reddick’s NBA career could be at the crossroads. He had his best years with the Clippers from 2013 to 2017, and if there is anyone who knows how to bring out the best in him, it would have to be Rivers.

For players like Reddick who are at this point of their career, opting to play for a contender is a must. The Clippers remain contenders even with their struggles and the 36-year-old could make a difference.

However, he needs to be bought out first before any reunion with Rivers and the Sixers can be entertained.

Aside from Philly, other teams ramping up their preparation for the NBA postseason wars are likely to explore a potential acquisition of Reddick. That list includes the Denver Nuggets and the Dallas Mavericks, two Western Conference powerhouse teams who are looking for more help.

However, it is worth noting that Reddick allegedly prefers to play closer to his family in Brooklyn.

Aside from the Sixers, teams to watch may include the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics. It's best to take note that the level of interest will still depend on the need of each franchise for at least the remainder of the current season.
