NBA: Warriors Feels He Can Safely Retire After Ten Years
Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors is having one of the finest NBA offseasons of his life. This is not limited to the fact that he recently inked a four-year extension with the Dubs worth nearly $100 million. Apparently, he has been investing his money well.
Just last week, the 29-year-old saw his first investment in Smile Direct Club go up from $150 million to $9 billion which Green told Forbes jacks up his investment to 40 times what it was initially valued. With cash to spare, it appears the three-time NBA champion has no plans of stopping.
"Ten years from now I'd like to be retired from the NBA, engaged in a number of business ventures," Green told Inc.com. "And well on my way to my goal of becoming a billionaire."
If he does hold true to his goal of playing 10 more years, he could very well be nearing the crossroads of his career at 39. And at the rate he is playing and keeping himself in shape, Green seems well on his way of achieving that.
Injuries could be a concern for the three-time NBA All-Star although he seems to know when not to push himself. But the coming 2019-20 season could be different, considering he and teammate need to step up while Klay Thompson is recovering from his ACL injury.
It all boils down to how well he can manage himself on the basketball court. Green has been known to be a rugged defender and willing to take the physicality. He has proven to be tough as nails but the last thing he may want to do is push himself to prove a point.
Apparently, some are not that convinced that the Warriors remain a threat in the Western Conference. In a previous post, Green said that teams would not want to face them in the postseason wars, seemingly assuring that the Dubs will still be up there fighting. The odds may be stacked on the Warriors but Green and Curry will hear nothing of it.
Both, along with Thompson, proved back in 2015 that they can carry the load and it appears that is their intent for the coming season. For Green, however, looking out for his body remains a must - especially if he wants to keep on playing for at least 10 years more.
