NBC’s ‘World Of Dance’ Dominates Tuesday Night Programming; Ratings For Week 3 Hold Steady
NBC’s newest dance reality competition, “World of Dance,” is still faring well in terms of ratings.
On its third week, the ratings for “World of Dance” still held steady with 8.1 million total viewers and a 1.9 demo rating among audiences aged 18 to 49, according to TV Line. The network also confirmed that “World of Dance” is the “most-watched Week 3 of a new summer alternative series in nine years.” The previous highest rate week 3 was back in 2008 when ABC’s “Wipeout” drew in a total of 10.5 million viewers.

Following its pilot episode, “World of Dance” earned a total of 9.7 million viewers and a 2.4 demo rating. This made Jennifer Lopez’s reality show the highest-rated summer TV program since NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior.” On its second week, “World of Dance” registered a total of 8.5 million viewers and a 1.9. demo rating. Unfortunately, the figures are slowly going downhill for “World of Dance,” but the show still remains steady for the past three weeks.
Meanwhile, “World of Dance” is currently receiving flak for allowing famed dance group the Jabbawockeez and Fik-Shun to audition. The all-male masked group became the first season winner of “America’s Best Dance Crew.” They have also been going on tours and performing at several events. Also featured in “World of Dance” is
“So You Think You Can Dance” winner Fik-Shun. The breakdancer starred in the FOX show as a pro and mentor to other contestants.
“World of Dance” has been dubbed as the Olympics of dance, and the creators did not draw the line between professionals being allowed to audition or not. But when Lopez asked the members of the Jabbawockeez why they auditioned for “World of Dance” despite already winning elsewhere, they said that they want to continue honing their craft. They also want to learn new things and share their talent to the rest of the world.
While speaking with US Weekly, Fik-Shun also gushed over “World of Dance” and said that what it makes it different from the other shows is that majority of his fellow contestants are already legends in the dance world. “The competition is really crazy. You literally just have so many legends in one room, like wow, this is real,” he said.
“World of Dance” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
