KEY POINTS

  • The coronavirus continues to impact the sporting world
  • March Madness has been canceled and it has left a void in every sports fan's hearts
  • Fans and players have had several ways of coping through this difficult time

The March Madness tournament should have already started but the conditions of the COVID-19 have halted the annual event. The whole sporting world has been blindsided by the rapidly evolving situation of the coronavirus. All activities have stopped and everyone is looking out for their safety.

With the absence of the yearly NCAA championships, fans and players have had several coping mechanisms to keep up in this bizarre time.

Former number one overall pick and NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns was seen cheering from his kitchen counter as he watched old reruns of 2015 tape. The former Kentucky Wildcat standout was seen cheering on their matchup against LSU where they won 71-69. It was Town’s go-ahead basket in the last moments of the game that sealed the victory for his squad. He tallied 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocks.

Everyone has been devastated by the fact that there will be no games this year. People constantly look up during this time as it’s when fans come up with their own predictions. Making unique brackets shows the unpredictable nature of the tournament but nobody could have seen a global pandemic halting the biggest college basketball competition in the world.

Clutch shots and buzzer-beating heartbreakers comprise of the entire March Madness. These instances consist of the one shining moment that each team aspires to have.

But with the absence of these moments this year, fans have coped with memes and other creative ways.

A March Madness egg version was even put up to deal with the loss of the tournament. This fan recreated the major stages – from sweet 16, elite 8, final four and down to the championship game.

In a more serious note, several throwback photos and pivotal moments in basketball history resurfaced in particular about the 1966 Texas Western.

During these difficult times, all fans and experts could do is reminisce on the good times, compare top prospects, and predict what could have been in this year’s tournament.
