Amid a labor shortage, retail giant Target will pay employees an extra $2 per hour during peak days in the holiday season.

“Team Target, your presence is a gift! And to say thank you for all you do for our guests, communities, and each other during our busiest time of year, the Bullseye is rewarding hourly team members in-store, service center, and supply chain positions, as well as select headquarters positions and seasonal team members with an extra $2 per hour for each hour, worked during peak moments through the holiday season," Target said Tuesday in a press release.

Target’s hourly wage starts at $15 an hour, making the new incentive payout workers at $17 an hour on select days.

Employees can earn extra pay for a two-week period from Oct. 10 to Dec. 18. depending on the location. Target will also include the pay for every Saturday and Sunday from Nov. 20 – Dec. 19, along with Friday, Dec. 24, and Sunday, Dec. 26.

Target will be adding 30,000 positions to stores nationally to make sure operations and customer service are running smoothly during the holidays.

The higher holiday pay is just one of the offers Target has added for its employees. The company raised its starting pay, offers a debt-free education assistance program in the retail industry, recognition bonuses, and gave pandemic-related benefits.

The Minneapolis-based company has over 1,900 stores and over 400,000 total employees.
