It’s no secret that Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage suffered due to their infidelities with others, but reports have also surfaced that claim the late Princess of Wales’ mental health problems following the births of her sons were also a contributing factor to the demise of the royal couple’s marriage.

According to the 2015 Youtube documentary “The Madness of Prince Charles,” which interviewed Prince Charles’ royal biographer Penny Junor, the prince was affected by his marriage being a disaster, and the fact that Princess Diana suffered from issues following the births of Princes William and Harry added to their problems.

“The one thing that really destroyed [Charles’] confidence was his disastrous marriage to Diana,” she said. “He just didn’t understand what it was that was making Diana so unhappy. He couldn’t cope.”

Junor also said that because he couldn’t understand what his wife needed from him, his own needs weren’t being met as well, which is likely why they each were led astray.

“[Charles] is a very, very needy man. He needed a wife who would support him, who would help him, who would be there for him, who would bolster his ego,” she said. “Because she was so wrapped up in herself, she couldn’t give him anything. The two of them were just poles and poles apart.”

The couple went on to divorce in 1996, one year before Diana’s tragic death in a car accident in Paris.
