Nerlens Noel Commits to Kentucky Over Georgetown, Syracuse
Nerlens Noel, the No. 1 high school basketball player in the country according to ESPN and 247Sports, committed to Kentucky on Wednesday night when he showed off a UK-inspired buzz cut.
Noel announced his decision by saying I'll be taking my talents to... before turning his head and showing off a Kentucky logo buzzed into his hair.
Noel, a 6-foot-10 center, will serve as the perfect replacement to National Player of the Year Anthony Davis, who is expected to become the No. 1 draft pick in the NBA Draft. Will Gunter, a national basketball analyst for 247Sports, called him the best shot-blocking big guy to come through the high school ranks in the last 20-25 years.
Noel selected the Wildcats over Georgetown and Syracuse. He provides yet another reason for Wildcats fans to celebrate after winning a national championship this season. The addition of Noel gives Kentucky the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to ESPN, and helps the Wildcats offset losses of Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Doron Lamb, and Marquis Teague, who are all expected to enter the NBA Draft.
For Kentucky it's huge because of what they are about to lose -- just from a standpoint of filling the roster with high-quality players, Gunter said. If they are going to be a contender next year they have to have these kids.
