"Unbelievable," the new eight-part crime series from Netflix, follows Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever) as she experiences the aftermath of a sexual assault, which not only includes her own personal trauma but doubts from those around her. The show, which was based on a true story and approved of by the real Marie, captivated audiences but likely left them wondering if they can expect a second season.

At this time, Netflix has not revealed any future plans to continue the show. However, according to Express, the streaming service typically announces renewals two months after a series is released. This means that it seems likely fans can attain a more concrete answer towards the end of 2019.

Showrunner Susannah Grant, known for writing the Oscar-nominated "Erin Brockovich," said that while there were never official plans to extend Marie's story she does see a potential path forward.

When asked by Entertainment Weekly if the Netflix title could work as an anthology series, using its follow-up season to tell the story of different characters, Grant seemingly got excited by the idea.

"That's a cool idea!" she replied, adding, "This is such a high bar because this case - if there's some case that I find or come across that has that kind of weight and remarkable storytelling and unbelieveable journalism behind it, I would jump at it, absolutely. If there was something as exciting to me, I haven't found it yet, but never say never."

"Unbelieveable" is currently streaming on Netflix.
