Netflix’s October 2018 Releases: 7 Best Movies And TV Shows Being Added

Netflix is adding tons of new movies and TV shows in October. The streaming platform has plenty of titles for those looking for a Halloween-themed binge-watching session, but they have plenty of new additions for those who don’t want to be spooked too.

“Blade” (Oct. 1) If you want some superhero action sequences with some Halloween horror, check out this R-rated movie. Wesley Snipes stars as the Marvel Comics character. Blade is half-vampire in the 1998 flick, but he is focused on protecting humans from vampires.

“Empire Records” (Oct. 1) This 1995 coming-of-age movie follows a group of young adults working at a record store that is on the verge of being bought by a big chain. The PG-13 dramedy, now available on Netflix, has a slew of familiar faces, including Liv Tyler, Robin Tunney, Renée Zellweger, Ethan Embry and Debi Mazar.

“Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” (Oct. 1) Before watching the big screen’s next reinterpretation of the film in November, watch this 1991 drama on Netflix. Kevin Costner stars as the thief who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman and Christian Slater also appear.

“V for Vendetta” (Oct. 1) V (Hugo Weaving) is a terrorist fighting the fascist government in London, and after saving Evey (Natalie Portman) from the secret police, he realizes he might have a partner.

“The Kindergarten Teacher” (Oct. 12) Maggie Gyllenhaal plays a devoted teacher who realizes her 5-year-old student is a prodigy. His parents just want him to have a normal life and enjoy childhood, but the teacher decides she is the only one who knows what is best. The film debuted to high praise at Sundance Film Festival in January.

“Great News” Season 2 (Oct. 25) This NBC comedy was canceled too soon, but at least fans can now rewatch the entire series on Netflix. The show follows Katie (Briga Heelan), a TV news producer whose mother (Andrea Martin) becomes her intern.

“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” Season 1 (Oct. 26) This Archie comics adaptation, also a Netflix original series, is perfect for the weekend before Halloween. Forget the “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” sitcom, and get ready for a new interpretation. Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) is a half-witch, half-mortal nearing her 16th birthday, which is when she must choose between worlds. Will she stay a mortal? Or will she choose to have a dark baptism and transfer to the Academy of Unseen Arts?
