The Brooklyn Nets are planning for a big summer if everything goes according to plan and they are hoping to use their sizeable cap space to sign an elite level free agent. Kyrie Irving is said to be on top of their wish list and if they land the Boston Celtics point guard, their next move will be to make a hard play for Anthony Davis.

Irving had given a verbal commitment to the Celtics fans about wanting to re-sign with the Boston franchise but has since been non-committal and is holding his decision back until he enters free agency later in July. The New York Knicks were said to be leading the race for his services, but Chris Broussard says the Nets are going to make a play for the guard but they have a larger plan in mind with more than one player involved.

The New Orleans Pelicans power forward has asked to be traded and is likely to get his wish if the team cannot convince him to stay long-term. He wants to join a team that can help him challenge for the NBA championship and is being looked at by numerous franchises that have the assets and cap space.

The Nets, according to Broussard, are ready to offer a host of players including star guard D’Angelo Russell and Jarrett Allen along with their two 2019 Draft picks for Davis. But the franchise’s move for the forward will be contingent to them convincing Irving to move to Brooklyn rather than New York or staying in Boston.

“Brooklyn is going as hard after Anthony Davis as anybody,” Broussard said on “The Herd”. “A package of like D’Angelo Russell, Jarrett Allen, who’s a nice piece, shot-blocker and athletic at the rim is nice for this day and age in basketball.”

“They’ve got the 17th and 27th pick. Now, Brooklyn, their dream is to pair AD with Kyrie. They really only want to try to get AD if they got Kyrie, because that will help them keep AD. If they can get Kyrie to agree ‘I’ll go to Brooklyn if you get AD,’ then Brooklyn makes that kind of offer for Anthony Davis,” he added.

Irving and Davis will not be short of suitors this summer with many top teams looking to pair the duo. Celtics have the same plan with general manager Danny Ainge hoping to retain Irving and then make a player plus draft pick trade package for the Pelicans to consider. The Los Angeles Lakers and Knicks are also almost certain to present trade packages to the New Orleans franchise.
