Neverland Ranch For Sale: Photos That Give An Inside Look At Michael Jackson's Extravagant Estate
After two years on the market, the extravagant former estate of late pop star Michael Jackson, best known as Neverland Ranch though renamed Sycamore Valley Ranch, is still struggling to find a new owner. On Wednesday, brokers attempting to sell the property took some drastic measures: They slashed the original $100 million price by a third, listing it for a new price of $67 million.
The brokers are also trying to give the home a distinct identity from its enigmatic owner, but given that the estate is just as lavish as Jackson, that may be difficult to do.
The estate is located in Los Olivos, Calif.ornia. The entire property spans 2,700 acres, but the house itself is 13,000 square feet and is built in a French country style. The house's interior is more opulent than the typical French countryside home, with dark wood and golden finishes. The five-bedroom house was designed by architect Robert Altevers in 1982.
But not everything in Neverland Ranch is out in a garish show of display. The house also has a secret room at the end of Jackson's bedroom, which is kept shut by three dead bolts. When investigators raided the house in 2003, they reportedly found images of child and adult pornography and animal torture. The Santa Barbara Sheriffs' Department, which conducted the raid, did not confirm or deny the reports.
But the property is known for much more than just the main house. Jackson bought the house in 1988 and turned it into a zoo and an amusement park — reality TV star Kim Kardashian even celebrated her 14th birthday there.
"That was the most magical place on earth," she recalled in 2009.
But of the 2,700-acres, only 50 acres are still maintained by Thomas Barrack Jr.’s Colony Capital Inc. Jackson, which acquired the house as Jackson struggled with his finances in 2009. The rides are gone, but a train station, two railroads, a pond and a swimming pool remain.
