According to Global Language Monitor, London has now become the new fashion capital of the world taking over the top position from New York.

London topped the rankings from the #3 spot in 2010 and all the credit goes to the Alexander McQueen wedding dress that fashionista Kate Middleton wore at her royal wedding.

Earlier, New York, Milano and Paris dominated the list of fashion capital but now it is topped by London. This change in the fashion capital hierarchy is caused by the buzz surrounding Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress she wore for her wedding with Britain's Prince William.

Although this change is supported by facts and buzzwords, some fashion experts are not so convinced with what London has to offer when it comes to serious fashion.

Middleton has given a new charm to magazine covers after she announced her engagement to Prince William last year and millions of people were keenly waiting to see her bridal gown.

However, it is said that whatever Kate wears is sold soon after she is spotted wearing it.

I think she is the new queen of fashion ... She's young, she's every little girl's dream and she always looks chic and sophisticated, Britain's Julien Macdonald told Reuters after his spring/summer 2012 womenswear show.

Even though dresses sell out within hours after Kate Middleton wears them, the Duchess of Cambridge is not another royal trendsetter like her husband's late mother Princess Diana, according to fashion experts in New York. Catherine is just a style follower and ideally not a fashion icon, say the experts.

She is stylish, but she's not setting trends, she's following trends, Gregg Andrews, a fashion director at the U.S. department store chain Nordstrom, told Reuters.

But the designers at the London Fashion Week have called Catherine an inspiring chic.

American actress, Anne Hathaway, has also said in a report that her fashion style is credited to the future queen of England. Hathaway mentioned how Middleton made dressing lady-like fun again.

I'm just very grateful to Kate Middleton for making looking appropriate really fun again. So right now my fashion choices are all about Kate Middleton. says Hathaway in a post.
