New Galaxy Tab vs. iPad 2, What is your choice?
The battle of the tablet market is becoming fierce. Samsung has introduced its newest Galaxy Tab at the CTIA 2011, rolling out a 8.9 version and a 10.1 version to challenge iPad2.
The electronics-maker has put in considerable effort to take on the current reigning champion of the tablet market.
* Samsung wins in weight and slimness
Samsung has the edge in terms of hardware. The thinkness of Galaxy Tab is 0.2mm thinner than iPad 2 which is 8.6mm. Galaxy Tab 10.1 inch version is bigger than IPad 2's 9.7inch but still lighter (595g) than 607g of iPad 2. Whether bigger or smaller, the screen size is of course up to personal preference.
The resolution of the Tab is higher however, 1280x800 versus ipad 2's 1024x768. Also, Galaxy Tab has 2 megapixel camera in front and 3 megapixel camera at the back, while iPad 2's front camera is 0.3 megapixel and 0.7 megapixel at the back.
* Apple's strength in app store
The strongest strength of Apple is the variety of apps that you can download. The Apple app store has 85,000 apps which is signficantly more than Android's market.
* Equivalent in price battle
It is hard to decide the winner in terms of price. Samsung has adjusted its price and made it lower than the iPad2 by $30 for its 8.9 inch (16GB $469, 32GB $569). Prices for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is same as the iPad 2.
Samsung has made some improvement in terms of pricing considering the 7 inch Galaxy Tab was more expensive than the iPad. However, Apple does have the headstart against its South-Korean rival, with its iPad 2 coming out March 2011. Since then, it has already sold millions, even crossing the 1 million mark on its first weekend. The company also enjoys a considerable lead in applications and developer support.
