New Hampshire Gov. Says Trump Will Win In State Because He's 'Very Genuine'
KEY POINTS
- New Hampshire's Republican governor Chris Sununu says Donald Trump will win in the state in November
- He believes voters will vote for Trump because he's "very genuine"
- He predicts Sen. Bernie Sanders will face Trump in November
Chris Sununu, the Republican governor of New Hampshire, proudly calls himself president Donald Trump's "#1 fan" and says he’s a “man like Trump.”
His loyalty to Trump didn't wane even after the latter condemned his own home state as a “drug infested den” in August 2017. Of course, Sununu rejected Trump's claim at the time, which is what a governor is supposed to do.
“The president is wrong," exclaimed Sununu. "It’s disappointing his characterization of this (opioid) epidemic ignores the great things this state has to offer.”
But this didn't turn Trump's "#1 fan" totally against him. Sununu and Trump also share another common trait: they're both staunch climate change deniers.
Sununu is again loudly predicting his man will win his state in the November 3 presidential election. He predicts Trump will take the Granite State because the U.S. economy and that of his state is going great guns.
On Monday, Sununu said Trump will take New Hampshire because of the “economic prosperity” that's occurred since Trump took office.
“When (voters) go into that ballot box, that’s why they are going to be pulling the lever and Donald Trump is going to win New Hampshire -- because we kind of match our pro-business message with his economic success,” said Sununu on the Fox News program, “America’s Newsroom.”
Sununu also noted that New Hampshire voters value a "genuine" candidate, and Trump is one president who has exemplified this.
He recounted Trump won New Hampshire handily in the Republican primary in 2016 because of this trait before losing the state's four electoral votes to Hillary Clinton by 0.3 percent. Sununu said whether people agree or not with Trump's policies or his successes, "the fact is he says what he means and he means what he says and there's something very genuine about that. And that's why he won in the primary in 2016."
Sununu believes Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, might be Trump's opponent in November. He predicts Sanders will do well against Trump in the New Hampshire primary because Sanders is “genuine” about his far-left positions, Sununu said New Hampshirite voters appreciate honesty.
“The (Democrats) that are clearly phonies, that are placating, that are just pandering to constituents, those are the folks that are falling off," he said.
