New Info Confirms Volkswagen Tiguan R Won't Be Out Until 2021
German auto giant Volkswagen has been working on a new version of the Tiguan compact crossover vehicle. The rumored Tiguan R was first mentioned at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and, after that huge car event, the world has heard nothing about this upcoming high-performance crossover.
According to the Australian-based magazine Carsales, the rumored Volkswagen Tiguan R will rely on a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine and not a hybrid power, which is what the other car analysts are expecting. The manual transmission will likely to be at somewhere seven-speed DSG. The car will also feature a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. However, there’s no confirmation about how much power the four-cylinder 2.0 TSI will deliver. But, according to reports, it could be around 300 horsepower.
There’s not much information about the release date, but Volkswagen Tiguan R could be launched sometime in 2021. The Carsales magazine got its information from the statement made by an undisclosed senior VW official, who attended the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. This VW official is believed to have a good knowledge of the company's car development.
Developed by the German automaker Volkswagen, Tiguan is a compact vehicle (CUV) that was first introduced in 2007. The first version of Tiguan uses the PQ46 platform and all first generation of the Tiguan vehicles featured a transverse-mounted four-cylinder engine.
The Volkswagen Tiguan made its debut as a concept vehicle at the 2006 LA Auto Show. The development of Tiguan started in 2007 at Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg plant. The Tiguan received its first major facelift in 2011. The company has introduced a number of changes in the outer design of the vehicle.
In 2017, the Volkswagen U.S. announced that it would continue selling the outgoing Tiguan units, alongside the second-generation Tiguan models. But, it was discontinued after the release of the 2018 model.
