The new owner of a house at Maryland made a horrid discovery after finding the body of the previous resident inside.

The body was found by the new owner early Saturday after acquiring the property in District Heights at a foreclosure auction, said NBC News.

Records don't show when the house was sold, although a neighbor told NBC Washington that the previous resident had special needs.

“As we grow up into adults, she never grew up. So she needed help with things and didn't process things as well as an adult would, even though she was an adult,” the neighbor told the outlet as he described the 39-year-old former resident.

He said that the woman lived with her grandmother and took care of her until the latter died more than a year ago.

The woman's caregiver also stopped coming to the house, as well as some of her family members months ago, he added.

Police sources pointed that the woman was not under anyone's care at the time of her passing, according to NBC Washington.

“We stopped seeing traffic, so naturally we thought that she was gone with the family,” expressed the neighbor, adding that utilities to the house were cut after it was foreclosed.

Authorities said no foul play was involved in the death of the woman and called it a “death investigation.”

“If we knew that she was still in there, we would have at least knocked on the door. We would have at least asked her, 'Is everything OK?'”

Police said that they have already talked with the woman's family and that her body is undergoing an autopsy, said NBC Washington.
