‘New Mutants’ Trailer: Do Wolfsbane And Mirage Have Gay Romance?
There are lots of reasons to be excited about the latest trailer for “New Mutants.” It looks entertaining, and it seems to indicate that the movie is finally going to hit theaters after many delays. However, one shot in particular has fans excited about a potential LGBT storyline.
“New Mutants” follows the story of several teenage mutants who are locked up in an asylum. They eventually team up to get out, but it’s clearly not easy. The Josh Boone-directed movie leans into the horror elements, so it’s safe to say that they’ll face some scary challenges on their way to freedom. It’s not just the horror genre that has fans excited, though.
Around the 2-minute mark in the latest trailer (seen above), Maisie Williams’ Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair holds Mirage/Danielle Moonstar’s (Blu Hunt) head and looks to be leaning in, seemingly to kiss her. While it’s possible that the gesture might not lead to that, the intimate moment looks pretty romantic. That aligns with earlier reports that the characters would be gay.
The rumors about Mirage and Wolfsbane’s romance have been circulating for almost a year. It seemed like it could be happening after reports from test screenings claimed that Rahne and Dani would be lesbians. However, X-Men enthusiasts knew that the movie’s extensive reshoots could change anything. The trailer, released Monday morning, seems to indicate that the LGBT story is still there.
Many fans were immediately pretty excited about the potential romance. They took to Twitter to react.
“New Mutants” is the final film in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe, but they aren’t the first LGBT teens featured. “Deadpool 2” showed Teenage Negasonic Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) in a relationship with Yukio (Shiori Kutsuna). Though the X-Men universe is coming to an end, they might be seen again. “Deadpool” is the only 20th Century Fox franchise expected to survive the Disney acquisition and join Marvel Studios.
At press time, it has not been officially confirmed that Wolfsbane and Mirage are gay.
“New Mutants” is set to hit theaters April 3. See other Marvel movie release dates.
