New Nexus 7 Release Date: Tablet Sells Out At Staples While International Launches Remain Uncertain
The new Nexus 7 appears to be a hot commodity in the U.S. as the second-generation Google tablet has already sold out at some retailers.
The new Nexus 7 officially released on Friday after an intended release date of July 30. Just two days later, Staples’ pages for both the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi variants of the new Nexus 7 indicated that the device is currently sold out. Staples was notably offering a $30 off tablets promotion, which likely aided the retailer’s supply selling out so quickly.
Luckily, the new Nexus 7 is still available at a number of retailers, including Best Buy, GameStop, OfficeMax, Amazon, RadioShack, Walmart, Office Depot, B&H, J&R and Home Shopping Network. Customers can also purchase the new Nexus 7 directly from the Google Play Store.
The 16GB Wi-Fi and 32GB Wi-Fi variants are selling for $229 and $269 respectively at the Google Play Store and aforementioned retailers. There will also be a 32GB LTE variant, which will sell for $349 on the AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon networks in the coming weeks, according to Google.
While the new Nexus has extensive availability in the U.S., most international markets have yet to get any concrete release information about the tablet. During the July 24 unveiling of the new Nexus 7, Google said the device would release in the coming weeks in markets including Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Spain, South Korea, France and Germany. Since then, India has also been added to the list.
Two UK retailers -- Currys and PC World -- have the device available for pre-order, with the 16GB and 32GB variants selling for £199.99 and £239.99 and a proposed release date of Sept. 13. Other international markets; however, have no retailer release information for the new Nexus 7. Additionally, there are only “coming soon” page holders are set up at the international Google product pages for the new Nexus 7, which are linked above. Customers interested in buying new Nexus 7 can sign up at the product page for their county for more information.
