  • "Overwatch 2" was announced by Blizzard in November 2019
  • Following the announcement, devs have become silent about the game
  • A new leak reveals interesting details about the title

The much-awaited sequel of the popular FPS game "Overwatch" might not arrive within its expected time frame, according to an industry insider. While many fans would be disappointed about the news, a delayed release could have some benefits too.

A reliable "Overwatch" insider named Metro shared some details about "Overwatch 2." On Twitch, Metro revealed that the development of the highly anticipated sequel is moving very slow and Blizzard is delaying the release of the game. This could very well explain why the gaming community has not heard anything about the sequel after it was announced.

The insider also mentioned that they have heard that the release is "very far off" at this point. Metro also commented that the appearance of "Overwatch 2" at BlizzCon Online would be probably limited since "there's not much to show." Fans could anticipate the launch of new heroes at the incoming event but not much else, the insider added.

Additionally, Metro underlined that fans should not expect that Blizzard would release new heroes to the base game "Overwatch" until "Overwatch 2" officially launches. The insider has a proven track record in the community when it comes to leaks. However, considering that the information is not official, fans should manage their expectations.

However, having a delayed release is not entirely a bad thing. In fact, it has upsides that can definitely benefit fans. Blizzard is most likely very careful now in developing the much-awaited FPS sequel for fear that it could share the same fate as "Cyberpunk 2077." Indeed, good things take time and it is probably what the devs are doing right now to make sure they would not have any regrets when the game officially launches.

"Overwatch 2" was announced at BlizzCon 2019, which showcased a cinematic that revealed some details of the incoming game's story. It also teased some of the new game modes and other upgrades that fans could look forward to. Technically, Blizzard has not said anything about the official release date of the game, so it is safe to say that the devs are still on track.
