New PS5 Model Is Already For Sale; More Stocks Expected To Arrive
KEY POINTS
- In July, a manual of the supposed new PS5 Digital Edition model surfaced online
- Sony has not yet formally announced this new model
- The rumored model is reportedly being sold in some stores in Australia
Following rumors that a new PS5 model is in development, a recent report has claimed Sony has already shipped the supposed new PS5 Digital Edition model and some stores are already preparing for its retail sales.
The latest piece of information about the lighter model of PS5 Digital Edition came from the Australian-based outlet Press Start. According to the report, which was released over the weekend, a brand new model of Sony's new generation disc-less gaming console has appeared in various stores in the region.
It also confirmed these models, as well as the ones arriving, have the updated model number CFI-1102A. It can be recalled that several outlets reported about the new PS5 Digital Edition model in July 2021.
At that time, the model's manual surfaced online, revealing the new disc-less gaming console is 300 grams lighter than the first version released in 2020.
Based on this manual, the console features a new screw, which can be found on its base and used to secure the optional stand. It means that with the screw, users can adjust it using their hands instead of needing to use a screwdriver.
Unfortunately, the outlet has not yet confirmed if the new model is much lighter than the previously released PS5 Digital Edition model.
Granted that the new model is a lot lighter, Sony has not said anything about the move. In the past, the Japanese gaming giant changed the internal components first before switching the wireless communications for a different make. It appears this could be the same situation.
Interestingly, it looks like Australia is the first region to report getting stocks of the new model, but it is most likely to turn up in other regions in the coming days.
As of writing, it seems these are the only major changes in the new PS5 Digital Edition model since it was released in November last year. Sony has not yet formally announced this new version, although it appears it is already for sale in some stores in Australia.
Just recently, Sony rolled out a beta system update on PS5 consoles, which has substantially expanded the new generation gaming console's capability.
