New Report Reveals Americans’ Biggest Stressor And It’s Neither Money Nor Relationship
KEY POINTS
- A survey of 2,000 Americans revealed what their number one stressor today is
- 78% of the respondents revealed that it's politics that stresses them out
- Other stressors reported include social media, partner, work commute and money
People get stressed, and a survey of 2,000 Americans showed that they are most stressed because of one thing – politics. It may come as a surprise, however, while there are many other stressors that hound the average American guy and gal, politics really top the charts.
Politics - Number 1 Stressor
According to an NYPost’s report, 78% of the respondents affirmed that politics stress them out. The body that conducted the survey, OnePoll on behalf of LIFEAID Beverage Co., revealed that more than half of the population, roughly 51%, are stressed because of work. Another thing that makes them anxious is money.
Another stressor that takes a huge chunk from among the list of possible stressors is work commute. Approximately more than one in four Americans point to their work commute as a stressor.
And while many Americans turn to social media to find respite from all the things that they consider stressful, there are those who don’t express the same sentiment. Roughly 37% stated that certain health issues give them anxiety.
Some Americans, however, point at their partners as the one who stresses them out. About 35% say that their partner is the stressor. Aside from partner, climate change seems to be another thing that causes Americans tons of anxiety.
The downside of all these stressors is that it affects their productivity levels. Some Americans say that they are already less productive at work because of high-stress levels. Others turn to certain coping mechanisms which are already unhealthy. Some people would find comfort in food just to make them feel better after being stressed out.
There are also Americans who tend to go on a spending spree. In fact, according to the study, the average American would spend about $960 in a year just to feel less stressed.
Some De-Stressful Solutions
Experts recommend that you exercise in order for you to feel less stressed. Exercise releases endorphins. These are regarded as the feel-good hormone because they tend to boost happiness and also help in relieving pain.
Try also to seek the presence of loved ones. Like exercise, being around people whom you love and can talk to can contribute to how you are feeling on the overall. With many stressors around you, all it may take is a good hug from a family or a friend.
