New ‘Resident Evil’ Game ‘Project Resistance’ Coming Soon
A new “Resident Evil” game is coming soon, and it’s likely a successor to one of the most popular offshoots in the series.
Capcom has teased that it is working on a new title called “Project Resistance.” The game company didn’t reveal much about the game, but promised to reveal a teaser trailer on Sept. 9 at 8 a.m. PST/3 p.m. UTC.
The new project, believed to be a new “Resident Evil” game due to the title’s design that emphasized the letters “R” and “E” from “Resistance,” will be shown at Capcom’s booth during the coming Tokyo Game Show that will be held Sept. 12 through 15 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
The developers will showcase gameplay during the TGS. Japan residents attending the TGS will be given the chance to play the game on a first-come-first-served basis, and only if they registered in advance.
What’s the new game about?
Capcom didn’t reveal anything about “Project Resistance” yet, but netizens eager to know what the new title is about placed the game trailer’s YouTube livestream link into a thumbnail grabber site to extract some screenshots, Polygon noted. The screenshots were posted on Reddit, but they’re too small and blurry to give some details away.
A certain Resetera user claimed that someone was able to extract high-quality photos of the thumbnails and posted it online. The images reveal that the game might have a multiplayer aspect where players will need to choose from a group of four characters who need to band together against an unknown threat.
The four characters don’t look like Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine-type characters who were trained to hold firearms and fight their way against a city full of zombies. They look more like average people, like “Resident Evil 2’s” Claire Redfield.
The images caused the internet to speculate that “Project Resistance” is a spiritual successor to “Resident Evil Outbreak,” the first “Resident Evil” game that had multiplayer cooperative gameplay. “Outbreak” could be played alone, but its multiplayer aspect allowed up to four players to join and beat the game’s different scenarios.
So far, Capcom hasn’t officially revealed anything about the game yet, except that it will be shown in a few weeks’ time. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
