New Tottenham Hotspurs Boss Reveals What Made Him Return To Premier League
KEY POINTS
- A new era is dawning for Tottenham with Antonio Conte's arrival
- The team's managing director of football believes Conte is the key to the club's resurgence
- Conte has a tall order in front of him as the new manager of Tottenham
Tottenham has appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager and has some nice words for much-maligned owner Daniel Levy.
In a statement produced by the team website, Conte credited Levy for helping him find his way back into the English Premier League.
“The contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction,” Conte said.
Conte also revealed that he was supposed to join the team last summer, but he was just coming off his stint with Inter Milan then and that he did not feel as if the time was right for him to be coaching another squad immediately after mutually parting ways.
The 52-year-old Italian manager landed the Tottenham Hotspurs job after Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked after their 3-0 loss to Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were left uncovered for key stretches of the game, scoring one goal apiece to push Nuno’s stint at the club to end just over four months since joining the squad.
As reported by the BBC, Conte’s deal with Levy’s side will be for 18 months with an option to extend for another year.
His arrival in North London is believed to be the catalyst for a resurgence of the disappointingly middle-of-the-pack club.
Fabio Patrici, the club’s managing director of football and Conte’s countryman, has full confidence in the acquisition of the veteran tactician.
“His track record speaks for itself, with vast experience and trophies in both Italy and England. I know first-hand the qualities Antonio can bring to us, having worked with him at Juventus, and look forward to seeing his work with our talented group of players,” Patrici remarked.
They are in dire need of a spark especially with Harry Kane’s slow start to the season, scoring only one goal in nine Premier League appearances.
Now that the famed manager is on their sidelines, there is renewed hope that they can keep Kane happy enough to prevent him from leaving.
Conte’s stint in the top-flight English league is best exemplified by when he led Chelsea to a one-year turnaround from 10th place to being the champions.
He will have roughly three-fourths of a season left to give hope to the Tottenham Hotspur fans and solve the scoring drought that has taken hold of Kane.
