The trailer for Brian De Palma's sexy new film, "Passion," debuted on Thursday ahead of its film festival circuit run.

Described as an "erotic thriller," the film focuses on the complex relationship between a boss (Rachel McAdams) and her assistant (Noomi Rapace). The brief promo hints at an affair between the two women as well as their devilish competiveness. "Passion" is a remake the 2010 French film "Love Crime," directed by Alain Corneau. The original film starred Kristen Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier.

The film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival (which runs from Aug. 29 to Sept. 8) where it will compete for the Queer Lion prize. De Palma will compete for the award with the likes of "All You Need is Love" director Susanne Bier and Xan Cassavetes (sister of Nick Cassavetes), whose film "Kiss of the Damned" is scheduled to be screened at the festival.

Over the course of his forty-year career, De Palma has directed such iconic films as "Carrie," "Scarface" (1983) and "The Untouchables." "Passion" marks his first film since "Redacted," a little-known war film released in 2007.

"Passion" will also be shown at the Toronto Film Festival (which runs from Sept. 6 to Sept. 16) and the New York Film Festival (which runs from Sept. 28 to Oct. 14).

The fact that the film was accespted at a number of esteemed festivals raises expecations that it will fare better than De Palma's last remake -- 2002's lackluster "Femme Fatale."
