New Wellness Center House of Wisdom Brings Calms Amidst Chaos
The year 2020 was a trying one; we found ourselves in the middle of a pandemic, millions around the world lost their jobs and our collective mental health was worse than ever. As we begin a new year, most of us would rather forget the doom and gloom that 2020 brought.
But poor mental health isn’t something we can just wish away, no matter how bad we want to. Meditation and therapy are fine but a surefire way to work on our mental health. But with the pandemic still ongoing and movement restrictions are still in place across the UK. Thankfully, House of Wisdom is working to bring better health to all, while on the UK soil.
House of Wisdom Brings Healing to London
2020 served as a harsh reminder of just how important our health is, both physical and mental. It’s a running joke at this point that everyone’s New Years’ resolution is to be healthier but this is now more important than ever as we collectively heal from the pandemic. This is where House of Wisdom comes in.
House of Wisdom is a new wellness center in London that aims to heal the mind and the body. It is the brainchild of Luca Maggiora, a nightclub entrepreneur, sound therapist Steph Reynolds and model Cristina Garces. The opening of House of Wisdom was a very bold move on the trio’s part.
The pandemic has already shuttered thousands of businesses across the UK and opening the center in August was a risk, but a strategic one. August was just around the time that lockdown measures in the UK were relaxed. This meant that people were finally getting a break after being cooped up at home for months on end.
This combination of a desire for human interaction and mental recovery turned out to be a golden one; for the first three weeks of the center’s existence, they received over 700 bookings for their classes. The public needed wellness and House of Wisdom was delivering it.
When lockdown measures were re-instated throughout the UK, House of Wisdom team was prepared, switching their focus to online sessions.
Why Mental Wellness is Needed
What makes House of Wisdom so special? After all, wellness centers are not a new concept in the least. House of Wisdom sets itself apart by focusing on the mind and not just the body. Many wellness centers focus on weight loss, muscle toning, skin therapy, and so on.
These are good and fine but not enough emphasis is placed on the care and development of the mind. According to Founder Luca Maggiora, House of Wisdom acts as a mind gym improving mental well-being.
He explains how making a change is a long process that requires commitment, perseverance and dedication, and House of Wisdom was created to help everyone make the change they wish to make in their life and support them along the way.
In terms of activities at House of Wisdom, there are five categories to choose from; move, breath, empower, sound, and meditate. One of their most popular classes is the Gong Bath by Founder Steph Reynolds and Dan Urmisound. Gong baths which bring an overall sense of relaxation, which can reduce stress. It also helps develop a better ability to cope with stress, help remove emotional blockages brought on by trauma and stimulate altered states of consciousness.
Founder Luca Maggiora knows all about stress. He previously worked as a banker and then pivoted into one of the most taxing industries in a busy city like London; nightlife. He was constantly burned out and stressed until he embraced some of the amazing techniques that he now shares with customers at House of Wisdom.
There is a common misconception that the key to recovering from stress is purely physical therapy. This is, however, not true. Science shows that trauma changes us on a genetic level and 2020 has been nothing if not traumatic.
More people are being diagnosed with various mental illnesses than ever before and more conversation is being had about mental wellness. While ending the stigma surrounding mental health is important, it is also important that we develop proper wellness routines to care for our mental health.
Many of us go to the gym, have skincare routines, and visit the doctor regularly to care for our bodies. But as we enter a post-COVID world, it is best that we develop routines to care for our minds as well and this is what House of Wisdom is offering customers.
One reason why some might be scared away at the thought of constant wellness exercises is concern that it might cost a lot of money. House of Wisdom, however, is surprisingly accessible. A month’s pass costs only £100 and the pass allows its holder to access an unlimited number of classes.
For all the immense benefits of good mental health, it seems like a reasonable amount to pay, during the lockdown and well into the future.
