KEY POINTS

  • "New World's" endgame is currently riddled with very serious bugs
  • The leveling experience and PvP skirmishes are still enjoyable despite some problems
  • Servers are now in a better state than they were during launch week

It’s been nearly one month since “New World” was released and despite all of the fun players around the world are having, the game’s glaring issues have begun to seep through the cracks.

When “New World” first launched back in September, players were disappointed to find out that Amazon’s servers weren’t capable of handling large player populations. Low server capacities meant that players had to wait for extremely long queue times while others had to create characters in faraway regions just for a chance to play the game.

Now, much of the server congestion issues have been resolved. Queues still exist but they are nowhere near as long as launch week’s login lines. The developers have added multiple additional game worlds per server that catered to the overflowing player population, but the fact that “New World’s” overall player count has dropped since release also plays a big factor.

“New World’s” player count reached a peak of over 900K earlier this October, with an average of 445K over the past 30 days, according to Steam Charts. Recently, player counts have peaked at around 400-450K with average player counts of approximately 300K since the past week.

The game’s population isn’t bad by any means, but there’s no denying that a significant amount of players have stopped going online.

The reason for this may be due to “New World’s” broken and unrewarding endgame systems, as highlighted by a post from The Gamer. Some high-level activities simply don’t work and difficult content do not give any meaningful rewards. Most of the endgame involves farming high-level Elite Zones in hopes that an item with a higher gear score drops from a world boss.

PvP Wars are also unbelievably broken considering how they are supposed to be the game’s main attraction. Players have been mass-reporting enemies to have them banned and unable to participate in scheduled PvP battles. Others have been abusing a bug that rendered their characters immune to all forms of damage. Meanwhile, companies have resorted to spamming area of effect abilities in hopes of dropping their enemies’ FPS rates to unplayable levels.

“New World’s” journey from Level 1 to 60 is undeniably fun and satisfying despite the game’s overall simplicity, but its broken endgame still has many players considering whether or not the game is worth playing after reaching max level.
