Gaijin Entertainment has announced a new first-person shooter for the PC that is set in World War II. The game, called "Enlisted," features a squad-based online multiplayer system, as well as a campaign mode based on real-life historical battles.

“Enlisted” is being developed by the Latvian studio Darkflow Software and will run Gaijin Entertainment’s Dagor Engine. The online multiplayer will feature large scale battles of up to 100 players with maps being incredibly detailed while having some destructible elements.

Darkflow and Gaijin want to achieve something different with “Enlisted.” Unlike other shooters, “Enlisted” forces players to stick to their respective objectives. For example, a squad will be responsible for defending an objective, while another is tasked to stop enemy forces from entering the area. “This is something one can experience in single-player games but not in online game with human opponents,” Darkflow said.

As for the campaigns, they will function as standalone games, with two of them already available to preorder. Players can now buy either the Battle of Moscow or the Invasion of Normandy campaigns for $22 each, according to GameSpot. Fans can also get both campaigns for $50, and it includes three weapons and grants players with early access to the final game. Those who preorder now will get access to the game’s beta during the second half of 2017.

What makes “Enlisted” stand out from other shooters is that Darkflow will keep on improving and adding elements to the game based on user feedback. “It will be a first-person shooter decided by the fans, for the fans,” producer Alexander Nagorny said. “They will have direct input into what we create, including things like campaigns, game modes, even which platforms after PC we support.”

The studio has set up a crowdfunding campaign on its official website where fans will be able to back the project and get special in-game items. The studio’s next crowdfunding goal is to get $250,000 to create the Tunisia campaign. The next two goals listed will be decided through fan votes, while the final goal of $1 million will be for developing “Enlisted” for consoles.
