Members of the New York City Police Department suspect one person is behind the recent subway stabbings of homeless people along the A line train.

The first stabbing took place around 11:20 p.m. Friday at a subway station in Queens, the New York Post reports. A homeless man was declared dead on the scene after being stabbed multiple times in the neck and torso.

The second report came two hours later when the body of a 44-year-old homeless woman was found at an A train station in Inwood with stab wounds throughout her body.

The father of the woman said his daughter suffered from mental issues, and he warned her to avoid the subway. “The trains are not safe. Anything can happen. …I loved everything about her, but she doesn’t listen,” the grieving man said.

Shortly after the first fatal stabbing, a 67-year-old man using a walker was stabbed on the platform. The attacker yelled, “I’m going to kill you,” as he stabbed the victim. He was taken to the hospital and treated.

The NYPD suspects the three attacks are connected to the Feb. 6 stabbing in Brooklyn, where the attacker yelled, “You’re going “to die today” and attacked the victim.

Since the coronavirus pandemic hit NYC, ridership and police presence have been down, The New York Times reports.

On Saturday, Tony Utano, the president of Transport Workers Union Local 100, and Sarah Feinberg, the interim president of the MTA, released a joint statement demanding more cops to be present on the subway.

“The recent horrifying attacks in the subway system are outrageous and unacceptable,” the statement read.

“We have been calling on the city to add more police to the system and to do more to assist those who desperately need mental health assistance. The time for action is now.”

The same day Police Commissioner Dermot Shea revealed the NYPD would be adding 500 officers to be present throughout the subway system to increase safety immediately.
