The Fall 2013 season of New York Fashion Week is officially over, which means it's time to digest the countless shows witnessed over the past week and analyze the best -- and worst -- trends for the upcoming season.

While many designers often take inspiration from people or the arts, the biggest trend for designers this season was putting those frequent flyer miles to good use with international voyages before hitting the design board. Designers sought out ideas in far away places from Russia, to France and Spain, to right here at home in New York, to even space for their Fall 2013 inspirations.

No need to pack your bags, but prepare for a voyage to the most popular destinations designers visited to inspired themselves for New York Fashion Week.

Russia

The biggest theme this year was Russia almost designers who drew from the opulent culture of the imperial. Zang Toi journeyed to St. Petersburg and back, falling in love with the beauty of the Peterhof Palace, known as Russia’s Versailles. Tadashi Shoji went on a similar journey to St. Petersburg and became enamored with the story of the princesses who escaped to Siberia during imperial times. Christian Siriano and Rozae Nichols of Clover Canyon both were inspired by the Russian Ballet and Opera and the opulence that comes along with it.

Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig similarly looked to Spanish artist Francisco Goya's "Portrait of Maria Teresa de Vallabriga on Horseback" for elegant evening wear.

New York, New York

Others looked much closer to home for Fall 2013, like Cesar Galindo, who took inspiration from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, isolating a moment in time amidst the fast-paced life of New York City. Michael Kors also drew from the city that never sleeps, with taxicab yellow and neon orange paired with every New Yorker's essential black pieces. Diane von Fustenberg took us back to 1970's New York at the iconic discotheque, Studio 54. Zac Posen also rewound the hands of time, bringing his guests to old New York glamour. And of course, Donna Karan's quintessential ultra cool New York vibe was evident in her DKNY collection.
