A New York man who sexually abused children enrolled at his wife's unlicensed day care center has been sentenced to prison.
Angel Tacuri, of Long Island, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 20 years of post-release supervision before Suffolk County Court Judge Karen Wilutis, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said in a statement.
The 53-year-old pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, one count of a first-degree criminal sexual act and two counts of first-degree sexual abuse in May.
Tacuri had admitted to sexually abusing, from 2010 to 2015, eight children, aged between 3 and 10 years old, enrolled at his wife's unlicensed day care center in Patchogue.
He was originally indicted in June last year and charged with sexually abusing six children, but two more victims have come forward since then, according to prosecutors.
"This defendant took the innocence of small children and traumatized them in the process to satisfy his depraved desires and that is something they will never have back," Tierney said.
"This extensive sentence guarantees the defendant will no longer be able to harm any more children and ensures he will be monitored for years after he is released from prison," the attorney added.
In a similar story, a 65-year-old piano teacher in Orange County, California, received a 100-year up to life imprisonment sentence more than a month ago after sexually assaulting eight girls during their music lessons and taking pornographic images of the victims.
John Mordecai Scott VI was convicted in March of 13 felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, five felony counts of a lewd act upon a child age 14 or 15, one felony count of use of an underage person for obscene matter, one felony count of possession of child pornography and one felony count of exhibition of lewd material to a minor, among other charges.
Starting in 1996, Scott molested girls aged between 7 and 15 while working as a piano teacher in his Lake Forest home and studios at Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo.
“The trauma these young girls were forced to endure by someone they should have been able to trust is unforgivable,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement.
“Pedophiles will not stop victimizing innocent children until they are removed from society. No child and no parent should have to suffer what these victims have suffered,” he added.
