New York State Requires 4 More States To Quarantine When Visiting
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced that travelers coming from four additional states will be required to quarantine for 14 days when arriving in New York.
The states that were added to the 14-day quarantine requirement include Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
These states join Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah that were previously on the list.
Cuomo removed the state of Delaware on Tuesday.
The new state additions were added because they meet the metrics for rates of coronavirus spread, which has been on the rise in these 22 states.
This means that visitors traveling to New York from one of the indicated states that has a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average or those from a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day average are required to quarantine for 14 days when visiting the state.
New York has seen its rate of coronavirus cases decline after reporting the most deaths, nearly 25,000, from the virus than any other state.
“The success of our efforts depends on citizens' willingness to comply with state guidance, socially distance, wear masks and wash their hands, and rising cases around the country continue to threaten our progress, which is why four new states have been added to New York's travel advisory,” Cuomo said in a statement.
Cuomo added: “I cannot be more clear: Look at what's happening in the rest of the country — if we are not smart, if we don't wear masks and social distance, cases will spike. No one wants to go back to the hell we experienced three months ago, so please stay vigilant."
New Jersey and Connecticut also have a running list of states that need to quarantine for 14 days when visiting their states. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy also added Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio and Wisconsin to their lists on Tuesday.
