A newborn baby in Malaysia died after falling into a toilet bowl as his mother went into an early labor while in a bathroom.

The 27-year-old mother, who was seven months pregnant, went to the bathroom of a restaurant in Sekinchan town Tuesday to urinate. However, she began giving birth to the baby there. The birth was so quick the child slipped into the toilet bowl, and got trapped, due to which his mother was unable to take him out, English Lokmat reported.

The firefighters, who arrived at the scene, smashed the toilet bowl, but were unable to save the baby, Daily Record reported. Authorities said it did not take more than 10 minutes for the firefighters to break the toilet.

In a statement, Selangor Fire and Rescue Services Department head, Norazam Khamis, said the woman gave birth to her baby accidentally in the toilet while "answering nature's call."

"The fire and rescue services department took 10 minutes to break the toilet bowl and extricate the newborn," he reportedly said.

The baby was declared dead by the Health Ministry personnel, Khamis said, adding the mother was rushed to the Tanjung Karang Hospital and was in a "stable condition." It remains unclear who all were present in the restaurant with the woman at the time of the incident.

While this case was an accident, earlier this month, there was a similar incident in which a mother purposely flushed her newborn baby down a toilet after giving birth inside a bathroom. The incident took place on Sept. 17 in Japan. The police arrested the Thai woman, identified as Penpanassak Supaporn, on suspicion of abandoning the body of her newborn son. The woman later admitted to the charges placed against her. The woman said she gave birth to the infant in the toilet of her apartment while she was about 25 weeks pregnant, and flushed down the child. A maintenance worker who came to fix a water blockage found the baby’s remains in the system. The boy’s body had the umbilical cord attached when the repairman found him.
