Newborn Baby's Decomposed Body Found Wrapped In Plastic Bag Dumped Outside Home
The police in South Africa have launched a murder investigation into the death of a newborn baby after the child was found wrapped in a plastic bag outside a home.
The decomposing corpse was found Thursday in the Ga-Mashabela village in Masemola. Limpopo Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe ordered an immediate probe into the brutal murder of the newborn baby, Review Observer reported.
According to Hadebe, a family in the village opened their main door Thursday morning and found the plastic bag with the newborn baby inside it. They immediately notified the police.
Authorities arrived at the scene and started checking nearby areas for clues into the death of the child.
Limpopo police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the newborn was a girl child.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the newborn was strangled to death before her body was put inside the bag. The authorities believe the child was just a day old.
"The mother of the child has not been identified as yet and the circumstances surrounding the murder form part of ongoing police investigations," police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said.
Hadebe described the murder as horrendous and disturbing.
"Those responsible for this barbaric act should be brought to book. We call on the community to come forward with any information about the mother of the child or about the murder to speed up the investigation," Hadebe said.
Anyone with any information about the case have been asked to call the investigating officers Warrant Officer Frank Makola on 076 618 5947 or Captain Matipa Mokonyama on 082 040 3242 or the crime stop number 0860010111or the nearest police station or MySAPSApp.
Last month, a 31-year-old woman in Brazil was arrested for killing her two children as she was unable to provide for them. The accused, identified as Eliara Paz Nardes, kept the decomposing bodies on her bed for 15 days. She has been charged for murder, concealing the bodies, and procedural fraud. The bodies of 9-year-old Alice Nardes de Oliveira and 3-year-old Joaquim Nardes Jardins were found on Aug. 27. According to a police spokesperson, the mother said, "The boy was killed by suffocation with a pillow and, later, the girl was strangled with a scarf." The police added the accused didn't show any signs of remorse over what happened.
