Newborn Boy Smothered To Death With Pillow At New York Home, Father Charged With Murder
A New York man was charged with the murder of his newborn son who was found unresponsive at their Bronx home Wednesday.
According to reports, the accused, identified as 27-year-old Teshawn Watkins, called 911 and claimed to have found his son, identified as one-month-old Kaseem, lying unresponsive in his bassinet. The emergency personnel arrived at the scene and rushed the baby to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
The father was detained for questioning and investigation revealed that the newborn was smothered to death using a pillow. Police announced Thursday night that Watkins was taken into custody on multiple charges including murder and manslaughter.
Sources had earlier told the New York Post that the parents of the newborn have two other sons, aged three and four. The sons were temporarily taken away by the city’s Administration for Children’s Services after one of them was found with broken tibia and bruises on his face, including bite marks. They were, however, returned to the family.
The source had said that there are “some evidence that the father has been physical with the children” and that the police officers were “looking to see if there is any bruising” on the newborn boy. Investigation was ongoing.
