A newborn baby died after she was smashed on the ground by her father. The incident took place in the Indian state of Bihar on Monday.

Police said the accused, identified as Sohraj Chaudhary, got into a fight with his wife after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol. In a fit of rage, the man snatched the 16-day-old baby from her mother’s arms and violently threw her to the ground.

Upon hearing the mother’s screams, the neighbors rushed to the home and saw the newborn lying in a pool of blood. They then noticed the accused standing close to the newborn’s body. On realizing what had happened, the neighbors immediately caught hold of the accused and alerted the police.

A case was registered and the man was taken into custody. Meanwhile, following an autopsy, the newborn’s body was handed over to the family for last rites.

In a similar incident in the Indian state of West Bengal earlier this year, a man killed his three-and-a-half-month-old daughter following an argument with his wife. The accused, identified as 25-year-old Seikh Raju, reached home drunk and started flighting with his wife. During the altercation, the man noticed his daughter playing on the bed and approached her before throwing her to the ground repeatedly. Though his wife tried to stop him, Raju beat her up. The woman rushed the baby to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. Raju was taken into custody following a complaint filed by his wife.
