Newborn Dies After 'Panicked' Mother Poisons Baby, Throws Her Off Balcony
A woman and her boyfriend were arrested Thursday for killing her newborn by poisoning her with a drain cleaner before throwing the child from a third floor balcony. The incident took place in Nonthaburi, Thailand, on Thursday.
The incident came to light after neighbors found the baby and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to injuries a few days later. During investigation, police checked the CCTV footage from outside the apartment in which a black bag was seen being hurled from the third floor. The bag containing the newborn was seen hitting the edge of a bin in the rubbish area before falling inside.
The newborn’s mother, identified as 18-year-old Aom, and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Jay, who had fled to a nearby property, were taken into custody Thursday. During interrogation, Aom said she did not know she was pregnant and she panicked after giving birth to the baby. Aom said she wanted to hide the baby from Jay as he was not the father. She then confessed to killing the child.
“I went into the toilet after I felt a squeeze around my lower abdomen area. The baby arrived after that and I was panicking. I did not want my boyfriend to know about it. I decided to pour the drain cleaner all over the baby's face and into its mouth then thrown it away. I then cleaned the blood in the toilet after that,” she said.
Jay denied being involved in the murder. He, however, continues to remain in police custody until the investigation is over.
“She just ordered me to buy her sanitary napkins then leave her alone on that day. After I came back the room has been cleaned but I did not notice anything suspicious but my girlfriend's fatigue,” Jay told police.
Police said, “Sadly the baby girl died and the charges were made more serious, from attempting to kill her baby to murder. Both of the suspects have been denied bail. The mother admitted all charges but her boyfriend denies helping her. However, we will also charge him as from the evidence, we believe he was involved.”
