KEY POINTS

  • Newcastle United sets the price in a potential acquisition of Eden Hazard
  • Aston Villa is interested in Hazard, but the Belgian prefers to stay with Real Madrid
  • Real Madrid is looking for Eden Hazard takers before the Belgian's contract runs out in 2024

Real Madrid is dealing with manpower problems other than the untimely injury to Karim Benzema. Another player who has not exactly lived up to par is Eden Hazard.

The Belgian, once touted as the best player in the Premier League, has had a forgettable stint at Santiago Bernabeu since coming over from Chelsea FC.

Before signing with the Spanish giants in June 2019, it all made sense. Los Blancos was getting someone with a proven track record and someone who appeared to make sense considering the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Unfortunately, that never happened with Hazard beseeched of injuries during his time at Bernabeu. As a result, the 31-year-old winger finds himself as the last choice on the team.

Hence, Real Madrid is now dangling Hazard to interested teams, a move that could take the Belgian footballer off their books rather than see him walk as a free agent. One team mentioned as a potential landing spot is Newcastle United FC.

However, the Magpies are reportedly willing to take in Hazard at a certain price.

According to El Nacional, Newcastle United is only willing to offer a transfer fee of €10 million ($10.3 million) for the Belgian winger. The reason behind this is the player's age and his unfortunate injury history. There is also the fact that Hazard's contract will end in 2024.

Considering Real Madrid spent roughly €100 million ($103 million) in 2019, it will be interesting if the stance of the Magpies will be acceptable to Los Blancos. But with Hazard barely playing for Real Madrid at the moment, it possibly makes sense and allows the team to recoup some money instead of nothing.

Aside from the Magpies, several teams have been linked to the Belgian midfielder – Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Earlier this month, El Nacional reported that former owner Roman Abramovich was allegedly keen on bringing back the Belgian player.

However, the outlet mentioned that the Blues are not willing to pay more than £34million ($40.3 million). That eventually died down, especially since Todd Boehly took over. Since then, no new suggestions of Hazard returning to Stamford Bridge have cropped up.

In the case of Aston Villa, newly installed boss Unai Emery is reportedly considering a move for the Belgian in the January transfer window, Defensa Central reported.

But when asked about it, Hazard did not appear to be thrilled and said he would instead respect his contract in the Spanish capital, Marca reported.
